The Prime Minister was invited by the President of the General Assembly and UN Women Executive Director to attend the launch of the newly established platform for World leaders and share Uganda’s experiences in handling crisis management. The meeting took place at the Trusteeship Council Chamber of the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Tuesday, 20 September 2022.
The meeting explored the importance of women’s leadership and participation in decision-making during a crisis and offered an opportunity for women leaders to amplify their message on issues of global concern. Women Heads of State and Government who attended the Launch shared experiences of executing decisive and inclusive leadership and policies, with recommendations for building solutions to interrelated and complex crises that respond to all of society’s needs. The Rt. Hon Prime Minister highlighted Uganda’s progress in promoting women empowerment, crisis management, refugee management and impact of climate change in Uganda.
PM also held a bilateral side meeting with the UN Women Executive Director and discussed mutual collaboration between the Government of Uganda and the UN Women family. UN Women Headquarters agreed to support Uganda in areas of crisis management including refugee settlements, crisis disaster response management and other vulnerable groups that include women and girls. She also met and exchanged mutual views with the President of the UN General Assembly, the President of Hungary, Former Prime Minister of New Zealand and the Director of UN Economic Commissions, H.E Rose Malango who also pledged to support Government of Uganda especially in mobilizing UN Agencies in providing support to Uganda crises management issues
