The year 2025 marks 30 years since the World Programme of Action for Youth (WPAY), the first global blueprint for youth policies and programmes. As the world reflects on progress, this event seeks to renew the global commitment to meaningful youth engagement. It highlights how young people can shape decisions on climate action, digital innovation, peacebuilding, and civic engagement, ensuring their contributions go beyond tokenism to real influence in governance.
Uganda’s participation underscores its leadership in building inclusive, intergenerational decision-making models. Through the National SDG Secretariat and youth-led coalitions, Uganda has championed approaches where young people are not only consulted but directly involved in planning, implementation, and accountability frameworks for sustainable development.
The side event aims to:
- Highlight the importance of youth voices in local, national, and global decision-making.
- Reflect on systemic challenges that limit youth participation and propose actionable solutions.
- Showcase concrete examples of youth-led policy impact from across the globe.
- Identify practical steps to make youth engagement inclusive, sustainable, and institutionalized.
- Promote intergenerational dialogue and partnerships that reinforce mutual respect and long-term collaboration.
